Lecture: Art Theft in Soviet Film/Oleksiy Radinsky
Annette Eliens
Thursday July 29, 18:00 - 20:00 hrs Van Abbemuseum Eindhoven (free entrance) (Language: English) In his lecture Radynsky addresses the topic 'Art Theft' in the Soviet film. The phenomenon art theft surely occurred in the Soviet Union, much as this was denied by politicians. The long kept secret theft of a painting by Frans Hals out of a museum in Moscow (in 1965), led to three films (in 1970) that introduced this new topic in the Soviet detective film. Soviet society tried to outlaw economic operations with the artworks, in order to reduce them to a mere symbolic value of museum objects. The films represent the emergence of an art market in this society. Oleksiy Radynsky (Kiev/Ukraine) is a scholar of art and film theory with an interest in Soviet montage and research-based art practices. Author of studies based on the art of Dziga Vertov (Soviet pioneer in documentaryfilm and film theorist), Boris Mikhailov (one of the most important and still active fine art photographers from the former USSR) and Kira Muratova (director, scriptwriter and actress with a large Soviet and Russian oeuvre). plaats een reactiestuur naar een vriend stuur mail aan adverteerder
